Cleaning the scrollball on an Apple Mighty Mouse

I love my Mighty Mouse but the scrollball gets dirty every so often. Today I got fed up with cleaning it from the outside and took it apart again. This is the second time I've done it, but the first time I did this was kind of scary. I didn't really know what I was getting into, it's $70 that I didn't want to spend at the time, and I would rather it just worked. However, after some googling, I found this website and off I went. Following are my steps for taking apart a Mighty Mouse. I've posted these with the intention of helping others in their own little spring cleaning project!

Putting it all back together again. Here I used the krazy glue on each point where the original glue was. And that's it! The longest part of this whole process is actually cleaning the rollers. Hopefully this helps someone in their own clean endeavors...!

Good article Tylor...Catcha later.

Wow. You're way more brave (and likely dextrous) than me. I put a bit of tech-friendly cleaner on a cloth and roll it back and forth to clean mine. This gets it un-stuck but I have to do it every few weeks, but it's nothing compared to a take-apart cleaning. Nice job.

holy hardcore. (ps. subscribed to new blog-only rss. is good, but is only spitting teasers into the feed, fyi) :-)

@Dad :-)

@Todd - Yeah, I do that with water and paper towel, and always try that route first, but it just doesn't get the dirt out quite like this.

@Ariane - Hehe, I posted this as a teaser so that people didn't get mad images in their RSS reader... or does anyone really mind that these days? Would it be better not split these kinds of posts into a teaser?

ahh, i see... well personally i find the clickthrough way more annoying than photos, but i'm a pretty hardcore google reader addict (and probably in that case the odd one out)--i only click through to comment as a general rule, it breaks up my next-markasread-next-markasread flow!

YouTube has a nice video. Have a look - How To Clean Apple Mighty Mouse

Ahh nice post, the ball on the apple mice can be irritating if they're are gunked up.
